KRYTAC Trident CRB Airsoft Gun Review

KRYTAC_Trident_CRB_KeyMod_CQB_AEG_Airsoft_gunThe KRYTAC Trident CRB is the first release from KRYTAC, a subsidiary of the KRISS Group that is dedicated to producing the highest quality training rifles possible. The Trident series is a line of AEG airsoft guns made using the industry standard design, but with industry leading materials, components, and precision.

The Trident CRB features a 10 inch barrel combined with a 10 inch free float handguard, and is ideal for both close quarters and field work. Since the externals are so different than anything we’ve seen before, it bears taking a look at the Defiance TR110 KeyMod handguard and the new stock.

KRYTAC_Trident_Airsoft_Gun_Mock_Gas_BlockKRISS and Defiance designed the handguard on this model from scratch. KeyMod slots on the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock sides allow for direct attachment of KeyMod type accessories, and KeyMod picatinny rails with adapt to other 1913 spec equipment. The profile of the rail is fairly narrow from side to side, which provides a slimmer grip, and is more ergonomic when covered with KeyMod handguard covers. The rail mounts to a steel non-timed barrel nut, which prevents the hassle of attempting to specifically line up a barrel nut. The handguard features extensions which lock against the side of the upper receiver and prevent any rotation under impact.

The stock features an ambidextrous QD sling swivel socket as well as a traditional sling loop slot. A convex rubber butt pad provides excellent purchase, and the flared design gives a solid cheek weld. Internally the stock has 3 battery storage options, and will carry a 9.6v 1600Mah Nun-chuck battery or up to a 1200Mah 11.1v Lipo.

The receiver on the KRYTAC CRB features a deep engraving KRYTAC logo, fire selector text, and ‘Made in Taiwan, For Training Use Only’ on the alternate side. Pulling the charging handle will lock the fake bolt to the rear, allowing access to the hop-up unit. A one-point sling mount can be used with a single-point sling by right or left-handed shooters. The sling mount is angled for a better attachment angle. One of the most unique features of the CRB is the ambidextrous fire selector. The safety can easily be accessed when firing left handed, and the right-side lever is slightly shorter to eliminate interference with the trigger finger.

Overall, the externals of the Trident CRB are extremely well put together. Finish on all the parts is even and well-done, as all parts are coated or anodized, with no cheap paint to be found. Assembly and fit is top notch, as all parts fit together well with no gaps or rattle on any components.

WeKRYTAC_CRB_Trident_Airsoft_Gun‘ve test-fired the CRB, and stock accuracy is excellent, on par with other high-end AEGs. Max range is approximately 200ft, with precision accuracy out to 170ft+. The stock hicap magazine feeds smoothly in semi-auto, but can get outpaced by the AEG when combined with an 11.1v lipo battery. The hop-up is fantastic, as it clicks positively up and down in consistent increments, allowing for precise adjustment that does not creep once you have it set.

Based on externals and performance alone, the KRYTAC Trident CRB more than earns its price.  However, KRYTAC has gone leaps and bounds above with their internal components, which are nicer than anything I’ve ever seen before. We’re going to dive into the gearbox in Part 2 of our KRYTAC review, but you’ll want to order one ASAP, as these are flying off the shelf, and won’t be in-stock for long.
